About This Event
All the money we raise from the Katie McBurnett 5K will be used to purchase Cough Buddy animals for Riley Hospital for Children, Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent, Columbus Regional Hospital and Kings Daughters Hospital. Katie received a Cough Buddy while she was at Riley, but they no longer distrubute them; because of this, we want to get the bears back into the arms of kids who need them.
From the Cough Buddy website: “‘Cough Buddy™’ is a specially designed post-operative pillow with a firm, yet flexible back to serve as a splint for the patient’s incision. Our pillow was created to help patients cough and deep breathe after open heart, thoracic, abdominal, or bariatric surgery. After surgical procedures, recovering patients must perform both of these procedures to avoid respiratory complications, such as pneumonia. Cough Buddy™ provides the support a patient needs and minimizes the pain of therapy. “Cough Buddy™” has proven to be a great comfort if a patient suffers from post-operative depression. He becomes a very special gift and a wonderful tool to help them through their surgery.”
Proceeds will also help fund the Katie McBurnett Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded in the spring.
